CHANGING THOUGHTS. TRANSFORMING Lives.

The Cognitive Change Institute develops innovative educational programs that strengthen decision-making, critical thinking, communication, leadership, and personal responsibility for individuals in correctional settings.

Measuring What Matters

At the Cognitive Change Institute, we believe meaningful change should be both experienced and measured.

As we launch the inaugural B.E.Y.O.N.D.™ (Beyond the Moment) pilot program at Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility, we are committed to evaluating the program's effectiveness through participant feedback, instructor observations, and measurable learning outcomes. This pilot represents the first step in building an evidence-informed model that can strengthen correctional education across the country.

Our goal is not simply to deliver curriculum—it is to understand how education influences thinking, decision-making, communication, and leadership over time.

Our Pilot Focus

During the pilot phase, the Cognitive Change Institute is evaluating several key areas of participant growth:

Cognitive Development

  • Improved critical thinking and reasoning
  • Stronger decision-making skills
  • Increased problem-solving abilities
  • Greater awareness of thinking patterns and cognitive biases

Personal Growth

  • Increased self-awareness
  • Personal accountability
  • Emotional regulation
  • Goal-setting and future planning

Communication & Relationships

  • Respectful communication
  • Perspective-taking
  • Conflict resolution
  • Teamwork and collaboration

Leadership Development

  • Positive peer influence
  • Personal responsibility
  • Initiative and engagement
  • Ethical decision-making

How We Measure Success

The Institute is developing an evaluation framework that combines quantitative and qualitative measures to understand participant progress and guide continuous improvement.

Potential measures include:

  • Participant pre- and post-program self-assessments
  • Knowledge and skill development
  • Lesson completion and attendance
  • Classroom participation
  • Reflective writing and practical application
  • Instructor observations
  • Participant satisfaction and program feedback

As the Institute grows, additional partnerships with educators and researchers may support expanded program evaluation and long-term impact studies.

Building the Future Through Research

The Cognitive Change Institute is committed to continuous learning. Every pilot, every classroom, and every participant provides valuable insight that helps strengthen our curriculum and improve educational outcomes.

We view the pilot program as the beginning of an ongoing process of innovation, refinement, and collaboration. By collecting meaningful feedback and evaluating outcomes, we aim to build educational programs that are practical, measurable, and responsive to the needs of correctional learners.

Looking Ahead

The B.E.Y.O.N.D.™ pilot at Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility is the first step toward a broader vision.

As additional cohorts complete the program, the Institute will continue to evaluate outcomes, refine curriculum, and expand opportunities to partner with correctional agencies, educators, universities, and nonprofit organizations.

Our long-term objective is to establish a growing body of evidence demonstrating how cognitive education can strengthen decision-making, improve communication, foster leadership, and support positive institutional and community outcomes.

Our Commitment

We believe every lesson should have purpose, every program should have measurable outcomes, and every participant should have the opportunity to grow. Through thoughtful evaluation and continuous improvement, the Cognitive Change Institute is committed to advancing correctional education that is innovative, accountable, and impactful.

We believe people are not defined by the worst decision they have ever made, but by their willingness to learn, grow, and make a better one."
