The Cognitive Change Institute is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural B.E.Y.O.N.D.™ (Beyond the Moment) pilot program at Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility (SNMCF). This milestone represents the beginning of a new approach to correctional education—one that focuses on developing how individuals think, make decisions, and lead their lives.
The pilot marks the first implementation of the Institute's signature cognitive decision-making curriculum within a correctional setting. Participants will engage in an interactive learning experience designed to strengthen critical thinking, emotional regulation, accountability, and purposeful decision-making through the Institute's proprietary B.E.Y.O.N.D. Framework™.
Rather than focusing solely on behavior, the program addresses the thinking that influences behavior. Participants are challenged to examine situations from multiple perspectives, evaluate consequences, communicate effectively, and make intentional choices aligned with their goals and values.
The B.E.Y.O.N.D.™ pilot serves as the foundation for the Cognitive Change Institute's long-term vision of expanding evidence-informed educational programming throughout correctional systems nationwide.
During the pilot, participants will complete lessons focused on:
The pilot will also provide valuable feedback to refine curriculum, instructional methods, and assessment tools before broader implementation.
The Cognitive Change Institute believes correctional education should do more than prepare individuals for release—it should equip them with the cognitive skills needed to navigate challenges, build healthy relationships, and contribute positively to their institutions and communities.
The launch of the B.E.Y.O.N.D.™ pilot reflects the Institute's commitment to developing innovative educational programs that promote lifelong learning, personal growth, and responsible leadership.
As the first participants begin this journey, they are helping shape a program with the potential to influence correctional education far beyond a single facility.
This pilot represents the first step in the Institute's broader mission to bring innovative cognitive education to correctional systems across the country. Insights gained from Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility will help guide future program development, research, and partnerships as the Cognitive Change Institute continues to expand its impact.
At the Cognitive Change Institute, we believe lasting change begins with a shift in thinking. Participants develop critical thinking, stronger decision-making, conflict resolution, and personal accountability—building the foundation for successful reentry, employment, family reunification, and positive community reintegration.

Every day, people make thousands of decisions. Some are routine. Others have the power to change the course of a life.
Beyond the Moment™ is an evidence-informed cognitive skills curriculum designed specifically for adult learners in correctional settings. Rather than focusing solely on behavior, the program teaches participants how to think—helping them recognize automatic reactions, examine their thinking, communicate effectively, solve problems, and make intentional decisions that support long-term success.
Built on principles from cognitive behavioral science, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adult learning theory, Beyond the Moment provides a practical framework that participants can apply in prison, during reentry, and throughout their lives.
The program's central belief is simple:
Lasting change begins long before behavior—it begins with the way we think.
